Why James Bond Inspires People To Go Diving

by admin on September 4, 2010

I have to say, I have never really fancied going on any kind of dive before. I always thought that it would be not only quite a risky thing to do but also something that would be a bit boring and although I had seen all of the Bond films before it was not until I purchased the entire collection on DVD a couple of weeks ago that I noticed just how much of a part diving plays in some of the movies and it got me thinking that perhaps I should think aboutscuba diving holidays after all.

The Moments That Made Me Change My Mind?

One of the best moments that made me really consider actually going diving was during one of the Sean Connery outings as Bond in Thunderball. A lot of this film was featured underwater and despite actually most of it being filmed in a studio I was still very much interested in believing that going on a real dive would be something that was well worth my time which would really be great.

Whilst realistically I know my chances of being ambushed when on a dive by people with harpoon guns and then thrown into a pool of man eating sharks is unlikely I still felt thrilled to go and try diving out. So I went to the nearest diving place to me and turned up with no knowledge and booked myself a lesson for later in the day. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it, in fact so much that I went forward and booked some shark diving out in those Maldives diving locations.

So thanks Mr Bond for giving me a great new hobby to go and try out, I will keep doing this and who would have thought a movie franchise would provide me with a decent hobby to try out!
